Just an Ant, 2023

JawwithBox.png

This project explores the relationship between privacy, the body, and exoskeleton design. An ultrasonic (distance) sensor within the box - attached to one's back- detects when someone is approaching, and micro servo motors "close" the pincers worn on the jaw.

My workflow included a photogrammetric scan of my face to ensure proper measurements, creating a model in ZBrush, and making final adjustments in Shapr3D and Blender. The final model was 3D printed, and worn during a performance.

This project includes an accelerometer that detects rotational movement, allowing the dancer to control various elements of music. The accelerometer is worn on the wrist, with precise tilting motions resulting in an altered speed and dampening effect.

An Arduino, worn on the waist through a handmade belt, sends the sensor data to MAX MSP which scales and adjusts the musical output.
